STARK COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - What does it take to catch a killer?

A bizarre murder case out of Stark County led detectives all the way to Tennessee this past January, after a 72-year-old woman never returned from a trip to Graceland.

Hartville Police had her husband of 53 years under the microscope.

But his bizarre lies to police quickly started falling apart.

Cleveland 19 News takes you inside of the case file, to show you how police started building a case against Phil Snider.

It’s a story that gripped the small town of Hartville and the nation.

Where we left you in Part 1, Hartville Police still hadn’t found the body of 70-year-old Roberta Snider.

But now, a cadaver dog hit on a red tub in the couple’s basement that could be a big break.

Police questioned Philip Snider for hours, but they couldn’t get to the truth about what happened to his wife Bobby.

So they came up with a creative way to get him to talk.

They sent an undercover female police officer to befriend him over coffee at Burger King, where Phil was a regular.

We take you inside the secret recordings from the undercover cop who could be the key to this case.

In the end, Phil Snider was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

He pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

He agreed to lead authorities to Bobby’s body. He took them to a landfill in Kentucky, and police say unfortunately, they never expect to find her body.

Hartville Police Officers Robert Wittensoldner and Joan Bauer were given commendations by the Village of Hartville for their work on the Roberta Snider case.

Wittensoldner is the police officer behind the body camera video you see in our stories.

Bauer is the undercover officer who ultimately got Phil Snider to confess to murdering his wife.
