Kelly Dobeck

Kelly Dobeck is an anchor and Emmy-nominated meteorologist on 19 News this morning. She joined the team in 2018.

Kelly grew up in Strongsville, Ohio. She loves being back home forecasting lake effect snow and telling stories about the community she grew up in.

Kelly’s series “Science School” has been nominated twice for an Emmy Award. The series highlights children in the community exploring the sciences, as well as partnering with The Great Lakes Science Center.

Her true passion is spending time with kids in the community, traveling to classrooms to engage with the students and teach them about STEM.

She knew she wanted to be a meteorologist when she was just a young girl.

Her favorite memories include setting up a weather station on her playground with her dad and watching storms roll in off Lake Erie.

Before making it back to Northeast Ohio, Kelly was tracking tornadoes at KARK/KLRT in Little Rock, Arkansas where she was a meteorologist and morning reporter.

She was also a meteorologist at WRDW/WAGT in Augusta, Georgia where she tracked severe weather during the Master's tournament.

Kelly's news and science background has taken her many places: from forecasting orographic lifting snow in the Carolina Mountains, working for NASA, calibrating rain gauges in the Great Smoky Mountains, launching weather balloons into snowstorms, classifying tropical cyclones, and ice storm forecasting in the south.

She has her degree in atmospheric science and meteorology from The University of North Carolina Asheville where she graduated with distinction.

Kelly also has her amateur radio license, KD8TWX.
