Rich Paul returns to Cleveland to discuss memoir and growing up in the city
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Rich Paul was back home in Cleveland to meet with Mayor Justin Bibb at Tri-C to discuss his upcoming memoir “Lucky Me.”
The Klutch Sports Group Founder, who is originally from the city’s Glenville neighborhood, talked about the lesson this city taught him.
“I sit here today with still that understanding I’m not that far removed from that,” Paul said. “It’s given me a balance to continue to you know not ever get complacent and not get comfortable either.”
The cover of his book is a picture of Paul when he was growing up.
He said that photo represented a moment he was at a crossroad in his life.
Paul had to overcome obstacles of crime and poverty to fulfill his dreams.
“No, I didn’t imagine myself here but if you think about I did do the things or I didn’t do the things to prevent myself from having the opportunities to actually get here,” Paul said.
Paul hopes his story will inspire other Cleveland kids, like him.
“Hopefully kids understand that you don’t have to finish where you started,” Paul said. “If you look at my start, if you look at all the things that took place throughout my life I had every excuse needed not to go forward.”
