Car suddenly catches fire in Rocky River garage; State Fire Marshal investigating
ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WOIO) - Rocky River police and the Ohio State Fire Marshal launched an investigation Friday after a woman’s car suddenly caught fire in her garage.
Police say it happened around 3:20 p.m. at a home on Beach Cliff Boulevard near Arundel Road.
The woman told police she was parking her 2018 Chevrolet Traverse in her garage when she saw smoke coming from the hood.
She went inside with groceries, according to police, but then heard a “pop” come from the car.
Police say she continued hearing popping and saw sparks before there were flames.
She’d attempted to use a fire extinguisher, but at that point, the woman grabbed her dogs and left the house, according to police.
The fire, which remains under investigation, destroyed her garage and spread to the house. Police shared these photos of the damage:
