The Flats Center Street Swing Bridge reopens
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Your commute to and from the Flats just got easier.
The Center Street Swing Bridge located in the Flats has reopened. The Ohio Department of Transportation invested $4.8 million into bridge repairs.
The bridge was out for nearly two years.
“This neighborhood connects us directly to downtown without having to walk up and walk all the way across to Veterans Memorial Bridge,” said Bill Donoho who lives in the area.
“I’m sure the Flat Iron is ecstatic because I know they’ve really struggled through this. We missed being able to get over there,” said Donoho.
Chris Bender is an employee at Catanese Classic Seafood in the Flats. He says their business also took a hit.
“It hurt. We saw six months of business that wasn’t. People coming here and trying to get here telling us stories about how they couldn’t get here,” said Bender.
ODOT says they closed the bridge to make mechanical repairs. It also got a fresh coat of paint, a new driving surface, and lighting.
