NFL 2021 Draft still coming to Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - As we countdown the days to the NFL Draft on April 29th, many football fans are crossing their fingers that the City of Cleveland will be not taken out of the picture.

Meredith Painter of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is excited about bringing the NFL’s number one pre-season event to her city, and she wants help from volunteers.

“We are looking for 2600 volunteers - 2000 of those will be with the NFL Draft experience. Those are volunteers that are avid football fans who want to work as part of the fan fest,” said Painter. “And 600 will be Cleveland ambassadors.”

A year ago, the NFL held its first ever virtual draft due to COVID-19 with the celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although all signs point to the event happening, Painter says the NFL will follow the lead of the CDC.

“We want to make sure that health is safety is our top priority for everyone that is involved in this experience,” said Painter. “We are going to have to wait and see and take our direction from the NFL and Health officials so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable experience.”

The draft is scheduled for April 29th through May 1st and The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission wants you.
