BEACHWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) - A shooting at Beachwood Place sent shoppers running through the mall in a panic on Friday evening, a city official has confirmed.

At about 5:11 p.m., Beachwood Police said two men got into an altercation near Saks Fifth Avenue, then one pulled a gun and shot the other in the leg.

The victim was taken to an emergency room where he was treated and released, but the gunman has not been arrested or identified.

Police said the shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence, as they suspect the shooter knows the victim.

Immediately after the shooting, the mall was placed on lockdown and shoppers were told to hide in the back of stores, until an all-clear was given, according to an Eastlake woman who was there with her daughter.

The woman said they waited for about 30 minutes, and were then informed that they could safely leave the mall.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the case.

Michael Williams, a Bath & Body Works sales associate, posted the following on Facebook after the shooting:

Mall had to close early!! It was either gunshots or big fireworks...people was running everywhere, jumping down escalators and everything!! I just clocked in 2 hours ago...going home!! Smh 🤦🏾‍♂️

The mall has been hit by violent crime in recent years, and has increased security and implemented age restrictions to keep unaccompanied minors out of the retail hub.

Anyone with information is urged to call Beachwood Police at 216-464-1234.
